World Wetlands Day Poetry Prize for Tasmanian students 2016/2017australian shellduck copy

Terms & Conditions

  1. The competition is open to Tasmanian students only.
  2. Copyright in the poem(s) remains with the poet.
  3. Winning poems will be published on the World Wetlands Day Poetry Prize website (worldwetlandsdaypoetryprize.org).
  4. The closing date for entries is midnight Friday 25th November 2016.
  5. The opening date for entries is Tuesday 1st November 2016.
  6. Poems that are deemed to be works of plagiarism will be disqualified.
  7. Entries must not infringe upon anyone’s copyright.
  8. Entries must be original works written by an individual author.
  9. Only one entry per student permitted.
  10. Entries must be a single poem of up to 50 lines, written in English.
  11. Entries will not be accepted by mail or fax.
  12. Entrants will receive automatic confirmation of receipt.
  13. The file name should only include the title of the poem.
  14. The author’s name must not appear in the document or in the name of the digital file. The entrant’s name must not appear in the PDF or the file’s title.
  15. Poems must somehow relate to the theme of ‘wetlands’.
  16. Entries should be presented as PDFs. The text should be presented with single-line spacing and in 12 pt font size. The pages should be numbered. Stanza breaks must be clearly indicated.
  17. Poems must be entered electronically – a link will be made available on this website once entries are open.
  18. Entries will be judged in four categories – Grades 3&4, Grades 5&6, Grades 7-9, and Grades 10-12
  19. Prizes are as follows:                                                                                                                               – Grades 3-4 (Overall winner: $50 book voucher from Fullers Bookshop.                               Runners-up – Five (5) book prizes worth approximately $20 each)                     – Grades 5-6 (Overall winner: $75 book voucher from Fullers Bookshop.                               Runners-up – Five (5) book prizes worth approximately $20 each)                     – Grades 7/8/9 (Overall winner: $100 book voucher from Fullers Bookshop.                         Runners-up – Five (5) book prizes worth approximately $20 each)                   – Grades 10/11/12 (Overall winner: $150 book voucher from Fullers Bookshop.                     Runners-up – Five (5) book prizes worth approximately $20 each)
  20. If overall prize winners are unable to access Fullers Bookshop to use their vouchers personally, they can choose the books remotely and have them posted to their home address.
  21. Prizes will be posted to winners’ schools. If the prize winners are not enrolled within a formal learning institution, prizes will be posted to their home address.
  22. Judging is completely anonymous.
  23. The judge of this Prize is Bradley Trevor Greive.
  24. The judge’s decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into about the judgments or the judging process.
  25. Shortlisted poems will be announced on the 15th December 2016 and will be published on the website of the World Wetlands Day Poetry Prize (worldwetlandsdaypoetryprize.org).
  26. The overall winners will be announced on World Wetlands Day (2nd February 2017) and will be published on the website of the World Wetlands Day Poetry Prize.
  27. A prize ceremony and readings of poems will be held at the Tasmanian Wooden Boat Festival (between 10th-13th February 2017 – exact time of ceremony TBC).
